Medicinally, sage was used to treat epilepsy, palsies, fever, and laryngitis, as well as to fight the plague. There is even a belief from England which states that if a woman plugs twelve leaves from a sage plant at midday on St. Mark's day, she will see her husband if she is to have one. It is also noted that sage plants should never bloom because the flowers bring misfortune.
