Straw Crafts outside the Museum
The weather was lovely this weekend and we were delighted to have Gillian Nott sitting outside the Museum to celebrate Lammas. She made some beautiful pieces (some of which are now for sale in the Museum shop, not the online shop though due to their fragile and unique nature). She also engaged with visitors and gave people a real understanding of the beauty of straw art and the significance of the ritual year. Lots of children went away with pictures to add to their “what did you do on your holidays” projects. I’m sure their account will be more interesting than their classmates!
Many thanks to Gillian for her work and her amazing window display (and to her husband Andrew for the great photos!)
If you’d like to learn how to make similar pieces, Gillian does courses at the Museum from time to time. Keep an eye on this news page, the events page on our website and on our Facebook site for future dates.
