Sylvia Townsend Warner and magical folklore…
Sara Hudston, who generously donated a ‘cursing stick’ to MWM in 2015 (see https://museumofwitchcraftandmagic.co.uk/object/cursing-stick-ill-wishing-stick/), has written an article about Sylvia Townsend Warner, author of ‘Lolly Willowes’. Of interest in itself – but Sara also reports some great pieces of folklore concerning ‘Black Boxes’ (a relative of the Cornish ‘wish box’) and the use of hinges to perhaps curse or open up a dialogue with the spirit world. It even mentions MWM founder Cecil Williamson – well worth a read!
