We were very saddened to hear of the death of John Smart

A quiet and unassuming person, who often viewed the world with gentle amusement, John was also a formidable thinker and extremely knowledgeable, frequently surprising you with unusual insights and approaches to magic. His book about the Royal Windsor Coven and the Regency, Genuine Witchcraft is Explained (written under the name John of Monmouth), is an impressive and important contribution to the literature of Modern Witchcraft.

Our thoughts go out to Francilla, Math and Gene

  1. I am very saddened and surprised by this news. I last saw John at the museum at his book launch. He and Francilla were a lovely couple, I spent a weekend as their camping neighbours (they helped me erect my tent) at Ludlow Esoteric Bookfair and we all chatted long into the evening. I send my condolences to Francilla and Math. What a sad loss for them and the wider magical community.

  2. We will always rememember John and his lovely wife as the kind and lovely couple that owned The Spinning Wheel. It was our favourite restaurant during our stay in Boscastle some years ago. In the name of The Belgian Clan of Traditional Witches I send our deepest condolences to Francilla and Math. Our thoughts are with you.
