3848 – Apple Doll

Physical description:
A doll with her head carved from an apple. She has white glass bead eyes, and is quite elaborately dressed, with a floral pinafore, a matching cap, a pink dress, petticoat, bloomers etc.. The head has shrunk to a somewhat disproportionately small size relative to the rest of the doll - which suggests she might be quite old.
Museum classification:
Festivals
Size:
220 x 150 x 60
Information:

These dolls seem to have been a significant part of American Harvest Festivals in the mid 20th century. The rickrack braid on the doll's dress also suggests a date c.1950s-70s.
