Information:

Part of a collection of gemstone jewellery that belonged to Julia Pearce. She also had several books on the magical and healing properties of crystals and gemstones, now in the museum library.

Magnetised hematite is considered to have powerful healing properties. Interestingly, natural hematite has also traditionally been used for healing, because of its red colour resembling blood, and its kidney-like appearance - see the stroking stone 367. This is a good example of how apparently 'New Age' ideas can have traditional origins, and how magic reinvents itself for changing times.
