A protection charm of rowan berries and jet beads.
This round embroidered fabric badge features gold sigils and a face (the moon?) on a black background. It is based on a needlepoint talisman in the Museum’s collection, which was made by Mrs A Dodsworth in the 1960s.
The design is taken from the 18th century book of magic ‘The Black Pullet’, and the talisman is said to “give discernment for the good and bad intentions of any person”.
The badge is approximately 7.5cm (3″) diameter, and can be ironed or stitched onto your bag or clothes.
