3955 – Coffin

- The coffin is 1.5m tall with a faded purple velveteen lining. It has no lid. Fair condition; has been treated for woodworm and had mould cleaned.

A wooden, purple velveteen lined coffin, that once displayed the bones of a woman that was thought to have been the sixteenth century witch 'Ursula Kemp'. The picture shows Cecil Williamson and the coffin from the 1980s.
Williamson sold the coffin and remains to the Plymouth based artist Robert Lenkiewicz. The Museum recently acquired the coffin from the Lenkiewicz foundation.
