MWM IN QUARANTINE

It’s not all gloom and doom! We are closed to the public for the forseeable future, but we are working on a series of Museum in Quarantine projects. Keep Checking back here for details, and follow us on social media.

FIVE OBJECTS

Working with the multi talented Ruth Hogben and Felipe Narvaez, we bring you: Five Objects, a series of short films. The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic has over 6,000 artefacts (and 4,000 books and manuscripts) in its collection. A visit is a process of discovery and the online searchable Collections remain open for you to explore. Due to lockdown and the museum remaining closed, we invited some of our dearest associates to select their favourite five objects from the collection. Some objects recur as popular selections but with different intepretations – you will need to listen to the entire series to find out which objects were selected, and why… We are aiming to release a new film every two weeks to eventually include one hundred objects from the collection and inspire your next visit.

CONJURATION
The director of the museum has been putting together a very special publication over the past few months. Inspired by MWM’s vast collection of DIY ‘zines collected over the years, Conjuration presents a cornucopia of images and text, drawn specifically from the MWM collection and archives and will also look at what makes it’s position in the landscape so magical as it draws upon the Genius Loci of this unique and beautiful location.Inserted into each copy of the very limited run of Edition 1 you will find a pressed oak leaf, gathered from the countryside surrounding the River Valency, which runs alongside the museum and out to sea. The oak is a symbol of strength, generosity, truthfulness and knowledge: qualities that we are all in special need of in these uncertain times.

One lucky reader will discover a gilded oak leaf, that entitles the bearer to a special gift from MWM.

Full colour throughout in an edition of 500 A5 copies, priced at £7.95. Every penny will go towards keeping the museum going whilst we navigate these uncertain waters and have to remain closed for the near future. The museum receives no public funding and exists from the annual door takings, so buying a copy of the zine will help to support us hugely. Keep an eye on social media for when the sales for Conjuration go live!
