3925 – Alpha Omega Handwritten Notebook Manuscript

This is a hardcover leather and textile bound notebook containing information relating to the Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn (Alpha et Omega). 

On the inside of the cover, there is a typed label that also features pencil markings, pictured below.

 

Slipped between the cover and first page, there are two loose pieces of paper. One likely ripped out of a book containing photographs of a person in a dark robe performing "Signs of the Grade". The other paper is a flyer, pictured below.

 

The following title page features writing which reads "Copied by Veritatem Sequor 5=6. Sub-Cancellarius. Isis Urania Temple.". Isis Urania Temple was originally the first temple of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, founded in 1888 in London. Veritatem Sequor was the motto of one of the members of the order, whose real name was Nathaniel John Speake Marsh, initiated 18/04/1909. This manuscript appears to be divided into books (volumes). Book I. A is titled "The Book of General Orders to Adepti Minores after Admission". The author of the manuscripts writes that "This volume points out the course of study to be pursued, and the work required to be done". The details of which are pictured below.

The following pages feature headings/topics: the Obligation of Adeptus Minor, the Supreme and Lesser Rituals of the Pentagram, the Supreme Lesser and Rituals of the Hexagram, Formation of Sigils from the Rose, Telematic Images, the Secret Wisdom of the Knowledge of the Lesser World or Microcosmos which is Man, Of Obsession Trance and Death.

The second part is titled "The Book of the Voice of Thoooth. The Portion called "The Enterer of the Threshold"". It contains information about the symbolism and formulas contained in the ritual of the grade of neophyte in the order of the Golden Dawn, known as ritual Z in the grade of Zelator Adeptus Minor 5=6. The volume's content is as pictured below, and it also features information relating to various tracing board diagrams found under the Alpha Omega tag

Part three is titled "Part Three of Ritual in Anglia", "Book of the Voice of [illegible, another language possibly Hebrew or symbols] which is called "Enterer of the Threshold"". It contains the explanation of the symbolism of the 0=0 grade of neophyte. The topics feature include the Ceremony of Admission to the 0=0 grade, Reading Manner, Grip and Grand Word, Pas Word, Practical Application, Symbol of the Closing Ceremony, Equinox ceremony. 

Throughout the manuscript, there are also many Hebrew words and letters, symbols, and diagrams, all corresponding to each other as outlined in the book 777 by Aleister Crowley.

The "5=6" inscription and similar, pertain to the structure and grading of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (also known as Alpha et Omega, or the A.O.).

These items came from a generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous.  She inherited them from Dorothy May Cox, who was probably a member of Alpha Omega, and perhaps a relative of Donald W. Cox, who was initiated into AO around 1920.
