A very unusual pendant, based on an Italian folk charm. The cimaruta (sprig of rue) is a traditional charm believed to have great protective power, especially to ward off the evil eye. It is also associated with the Goddess Diana.
The leaves of rue morph into other magical symbols: a hand holding a wand, a rose, a flaming heart, a crescent moon, a bird, a plumed helmet and a key.
Handcrafted in silver specially for the Museum by Marti Dean.
The pendant is approximately 7cm (2.5″) tall and 6cm (2.25″) wide.
