Photograph: Kern Baby
£60.00
This photograph, titled ‘Kern Baby in White Dress’, shows a beautiful corn dolly from the Museum’s collection floating eerily against a black background.
These magical figures were made around harvest time. Sometimes they would be carried in procession or sat at the head of the table to represent the spirit of the harvest. Often they would then be sat on the last pew in the local church (sometimes with an apple in the pocket). At the end of a year they would be burnt and their ashes scattered over the fields to ensure a good new harvest.
Part of a collection of photographs of Museum objects taken by artist Sara Hannant.
Limited Edition of 50, 10 x 10 inch (25.4 x 25.4 cm) prints on Fuji Archive Crystal Paper, in a narrow cream mount. With a label of authenticity signed and numbered by the artist.
