Iron Triskelion wall hanging, hand forged by local Blacksmith on Bodmin Moor. Unique to the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. Approximately 19 cm in height and 19 cm wide.
The triple spiral is found in artefacts of the European Neolithic and Bronze Age, often related to the Celtic traditions although it appears as a form of decoration across the ancient world. The word ‘triskelion’ comes from the Greek triskeles which means three-legged. Here are some interpretations of the symbol –
- Physical, spiritual and celestial realms of the Celtic worlds
- Earth, sky and water – the three main aspects of the physical world
- The symbol signifies movement and motion
- Mind, body and spirit
- The present, past and future
- Creation, preservation and destruction
- It is a Buddhist meditation symbol
- In Christianity the triskelion can represent the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, the three days from the death of Jesus to his resurrection or the three temptations of Jesus by the devil

Stang top with candle holder and shoe
In witchcraft a staff with a forked top is known as a stang, and in some traditions symbolises the Horned God. We now have two designs of this iron stang top, for fixing to the top of a wooden staff. Both have an elegantly curved horn-shape, and were hand-forged on Bodmin Moor. This new design (£40) has a holder for a candle and both come with a cylindrical iron shoe to protect and ground the bottom of the staff, as all stangs should be shod in iron.
The stang top is approximately 13.5cm (5″) tall and 9cm (3.5″) across, and the internal diameter of the part that fixes to the staff is approximately 2cm. It has a hole to secure it to the staff with a nail or screw.
