Joan Wytte’s Memorial Postcard
This postcard captures the magical atmosphere at the memorial stone for Cornish wise woman Joan Wytte, A string of hagstones hang from the top of the stone, and a heart-shaped pincushion (traditionally a gift intended to bring good fortune) rests against it.
Joan Wytte, known as the Fighting Fairy Woman of Bodmin, died in jail in the 19th century. Her skeleton was on display here in the Museum for many years, until it was buried in Minster Wood near Boscastle by Graham King, the Museum’s Director, in 1998.
