Original text by Cecil Williamson: 'The horse, for so many centuries vital to mankind for work and transport. There is a wealth of magical folklore concerning the horse and as to be expected the west country witches cashed in on the act way back in pre-Christian days. So these carefully preserved and nicely-mounted horse tails were in demand to bring long life, strength, and freedom from all ills for the horse population of any well-to-do and prosperous farm. Good prices were paid for those witch prepared and spirit protected horse tails. This one came from a farm in the Grampound area.'
