Reproduction of a 16th century woodcut taken from "news from Scotland" 1591. Shows the North Berwick Witches, plus Dr. John Fian the schoolmaster, a sinking ship and a satanic figure.

Text by Cecil Williamson: 'The belief in the power of witches, to be able to create storms capable of wrecking ships at sea, was not only confined to the coast of Devon and Cornwall. The belief held good for all of Wales, Scotland, the Orkneys and as far down the east coast of England as Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Pictures such as this were in circulation and accepted as true in every respect.'
