A booklet was produced to accompany this cup and saucer. A copy is in the library (Museum no. 1424, Library no. 133.3 MAC 4165).
This fortune-telling cup, made by Aynsley in the 1920s, cleverly combines the use of tea leaves and cards.
The accompanying booklet explains the symbolic meaning of the cards, and also discusses the history and philosophy of divination:-
'Some are inclined to jeer at the fortune in the tea-cup, but if the language of symbolism is rightly understood, the medium through which it is seen matters little.'
