The 17th century equivalent of a self-help manual. Its general optimism is endearing, though its arguments take a bit of wading through.

Elias Ashmole was a founding Fellow of the Royal Society, and gave his name to Oxford's Ashmolean Museum. A wealthy collector of artefacts and manuscripts, and a defender of Alchemy, he collected John Dee's manuscripts (which is probably the reason we have them today), and published a book on Alchemy by John Dee's son Arthur.
