peck o’ trouble by artist Suzanne O’Haire with guest speaker, Simon Costin
As part of Suzanne’s exhibition at the Recency Townhouse in Brighton, Suzanne O’Haire will present a series of 34 domestic-scale sculptural assemblages, titled beyond belief, made predominately out of discarded objects, castings from disposed packaging and elements of neon lighting. Permanent structures will emerge from impermanent matter, where arrangements of acrobatically stacked, bundled or tentatively balanced forms will perform as supposed magical sigils or spells.
O’Haire wants this work to encourage conversation regarding a presumed connection between the making of art and notions of magic. She has invited Sally O’Reilly (writer), Simon Costin (Director of the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic) and David Bramwell (writer/broadcaster) as guest speakers. All three have revealed a distinctive slant towards the occult within their own work and will give talks within the duration of the show.
Simon’s talk is now completely sold out but do contact the venue in case of cancellations.
