The Mari Lwyd is a rather Shamanic part-horse part-human figure, rather like the Padstow Obby Oss. This postcard shows the head, consisting of a horse's skull with a decorative bridle.

The postcard is from Amgueddfa Werin Cymru (The Welsh Folk Museum), and was bought there in the 1990s. It is from a painting by Rose Hughes dating from 1977.
