Christian amulet - very pretty, colourful 'Miraculous Medal', depicting the Virgin Mary with stars around her head. Silver-coloured metal with purple and turquoise enamel.

The Miraculous Medal was the result of two visions by St Catherine Laboure, a novice nun in Paris, who was woken by her guardian angel (who appeared to her as a five-year-old child dressed in a dazzling robe), and taken to the chapel, where the Virgin Mary appeared to her and told her a number of prophecies. In a second vision the Virgin showed Catherine the design of the medal.
Those who wear the Miraculous Medal are said to receive great graces, especially if it is worn around the neck.
