4296 – Fortune Telling Teacup

Physical description:
A fortune telling teacup and saucer with playing cards depicted inside the cup, together with the words 'The Cup of Knowledge'. The saucer and the outside of the cup are pale green, with gold rims. Made of fine bone china.
Museum classification:
Divination
Size:
55 x 120 x 95 (cup); 15 x 140 diam (saucer)
Information:

A version of Aynsley's Cup of Knowledge.

The colour suggests a date of 1920s or 30s. Aynsley first manufactured this design in the 1920s.

However, there is no Aynsley mark. Instead, there is the name Japan on the underside of both cup and saucer, stamped onto the surface rather than part of the fabric. This seems to indicate a Japanese copy, perhaps from the 1950s.
