3740 – Green Goddess with leaves and pomegranate

Physical description:
Mostly green terracotta figure of seated woman. She has leaves as hair and is sitting on a watery effect. In one hand, she is stroking her pregnant stomach, in the other she is holding a pomegranate. She has a little brown mouse behind her.

Green Man style vegetation Goddess.  She may represent Demeter and Persephone (she has both a pomegranate and a wheat sheaf on her).

For many years, this object sat in the Shrine.  In January 2017, it was removed due to concerns about its preservation.
