922 – Mask with Antlers

Mask with antlers and green leaves on greyish-brown face. Made by John Seabrook, commissioned and owned by Chris Gosselin.

Horned masks are often worn by modern witches during ritual in which the High Priest will assume the role of the Horned God.
This robe and horned mask belonged to the late Chris Gosselin and were often used in ritual.
The mask was made in papier-mâche by ritual mask maker John Seabrook. Chris Gosselin, who wanted a Horned God Green Man mask, commissioned it from him; although it has since been repainted. The antlers are modelled on fallow deer antlers. According to John Seabrook the mask was mainly used in Beltane rituals. There is another of John's masks in the Swiss witchcraft museum Hexenmuseum Schweiz.
