2472 – Wooden Pig talisman pendant

Black wooden carved pendant in the form of a pig. Suspension ring on back.

2282, 2341, 2473, 2474 are pig-shaped pendants. There are also pig-shaped charms in the Scarborough Museums Trust's Clarke collection. T.Cadbury, 21/09/2011.

Although in Britain today the black cat is considered the pre-eminent lucky animal, in the early 20th century pigs were also considered lucky - as they still are in Northern European countries such as Germany.
