2891 – William Henry Paynter Witch Doll

Physical description:
Homemade peg doll (i.e. made using an old-style clothes peg), covered in fabric, with white head, sewn facial features in blue and red thread. Red cardboard nose. Pointed cardboard hat. Plastic commercially made cat and slender twig broomstick.

Donated by Jeremy Tucker, grandson of Cornish folklorist William Henry Paynter (1901-1976). Object was found among Paynter's personal effects.
