Photo permissions
THE WEBSITE AND COLLECTIONS ARE NOT A PHOTO LIBRARY. IF YOU REQUIRE PHOTO PERMISSIONS FOR PUBLICATION PLEASE CONTACT US BY EMAIL WITH YOUR REQUEST.
The Museum of Witchcraft is frequently approached for photo permissions, for journalism, academic writing, and illustration. Increasingly, we are asked to provide images for TV & Film, for which there are additional considerations besides.
Where we own the copyright we can turn an enquiry around within two working weeks ( longer in summer season – complex queries where we act as an agent on your behalf with the copyright owner or estate may take up to three months to clear rights ).
Our time is chargeable at £45 per hour while we are working on your behalf.
In addition, there where a photo is licensable in the territory requested, there are fees and these will depend on a number of factors, being calculated from information that you provide us.
We need to know:-
Publisher / Imprint / Press
Market: eg Academic or Commercial
Budget for acquisitions
Print run
Territory
Rights requested ( eg print media )
Digital rights are usually reserved.
In addition, an image used for a book cover is at least three if not four times more expensive than an image used in the illustration of a text – we achieved a four figure sum from a USA publisher ( one of the ‘Big Five’ ) for the cover of a popular book in that territory.
When writing to us to make an enquiry, include your budget for images so we can see at outset if we can be of assistance.
