Cecil Williamson's interpretation card (CWOLC 7190) of this item reads:
"Frail old women especially when they are reputed to be witches are open to assault and abuse by unthinking local yobbos. The witch and her cat are synonymous so as the cat has claws with which to defend itself, the witch has likewise in this steel set of razar-sharp sic blades carried concealed in her clenched fist, her own set of claws. With this weapon the witch can cause as much damage to a man's face as that caused by a blow from a tiger's paw. So please be polite to the witch ladies of the South West."
