Original text by Cecil Williamson: 'Wish boxes come in all shapes, sizes and materials, such as this small round container made of a very hard blackwood, and this painted square head casket with lid. Both of these examples came from the Honiton area.'
Early pictures show the wood of this box as almost completely black, with the inlaid disc on the lid reddish in colour, and contrasting quite dramatically with the rest. As the box is now, it is showing more grain, with the wood still mainly black, but with lighter streaks with a golden hue. The inlaid disc is now dark brown.
