4236 – Celtic Head Amulet

Physical description:: An oval bronze amulet, heavily patinated, hollow backed, in the shape of a stylised human head (or, to be strictly accurate, the face, neck and hair of a head). The hair is delineated with diagonal hatching, and the face has the simplified but powerful expression of the Celtic stone heads found across Britain. Celtic, Iron Age (c. 200 BCE); excavated in County Durham.

4237 – Gnostic Charm Harpocrates

A bronze charm or amulet, double sided, engraved (in the manner of a seal) with figures, apparently Deities. The engraved section is smaller on one side, and more worn, but depicts an animal-headed figure with raised arms. The other side is still very crisp, and depicts a human-like figure, seated, engaged in lively conversation with an ithyphallic, furry, animal-headed figure. Gnostic, c. 2nd - 3rd century AD.
