Original text by Cecil Williamson: 'Sea witch love charm consisting of wife's stocking, red wax-covered shell resting on a scallop shell saucer and a certain substance, from Combe Martin, 1937.'

Originally the shells were wrapped inside the stocking, as can be seen in the early photograph shown at the top here.

 

One of the objects that was on loan to the 'Wicked Spirits?' exhibition at Colchester Castle Museum in 2022.
