2392 – THAI TALISMAN

Physical description:
Rectangular piece of brass with stamped design and ragged edges. At centre is a circle with four Chinese or Korean characters inside it and a square at the centre.
Museum classification:
Spells and charms
Size:
70 x 25 x 4
Information:

Ragged edges suggest that design has been stamped into a rough piece of metal, like a coin. There are Chinese coins in the MoW collection in the shape of the motif at the centre of this object, so perhaps this object is a coin or currency bar as well. Paper accretions on back suggest that object may have been stuck to a display board in the past. T.Cadbury, 21/09/2011.

In fact this is probably a stamp for stamping information of blocks of compressed tea. It may be Korean.
