4007 Pilgrim Badge

Physical description:
A very small dark grey pewter Pilgrim Badge, in the shape of a heart pierced with an arrow. Across the heart there is a scroll containing very minute lettering, and there is a crown at the top. 14th or 15th century.

This is an emblem of the Virgin Mary, but interestingly it resembles the old style of tattoo favoured by sailors around the era of World War II, which consisted of a heart with an arrow and a scroll.
